FRANCES FERRARA ROGERS
Frances Ferrara Rogers of Silver Spring, MD, was called home to the Lord at 100 years of age on Friday, August 24, 2012. Born June 4, 1912, she was one of six children born to Italian immigrants. Her parents were Vincent and Vita Ferrara of Washington, D.C. She worked as an executive secretary in a number of prominent positions in law, government, and banking. While secretary at the Federal Home Loan Bank, she was invited to the White House for Tea with Mrs. Roosevelt. After WWII, her husband and she owned and operated Rogers Realty Company for 35 years. After retirement in 1985, they spent most of their time at home in Lake Park, Florida. By all accounts of her family, she was one of the best cooks in the world. Mrs. Rogers is predeceased by her beloved husband of 71 years, Raymond L. Rogers, and four siblings: Frank Varvaro, James Ferrara, Nina Bell and Samuel Ferrara. She is survived by her brother, Peter B. Ferrara, Sr., of Belleair Bluffs, FL, and by 97 nieces and nephews spanning four generations, many of whom called her “DeeDee”. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), on Friday, 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902, on Saturday, September 1, at 11 a.m. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church or Montgomery Hospice Society, 1355 Piccard Drive, Suite 100, Rockville, MD 20850.
